Part E Acoustic Testing

Part E Sound Insulation Testing

Privacy and comfort start with what you don’t hear. Part E of the Building Regulations sets out the requirements for sound insulation in residential buildings, ensuring that neighbors, both above and below as well as to the sides, aren’t disturbed by the day-to-day noise of modern living.

Whether it’s a new build or a conversion project, our Acoustic Testing service ensures your development meets the legal requirements for airborne and impact sound insulation.

The Importance of Part E Compliance

  • Excessive noise transfer is one of the leading causes of complaints in multi-occupancy buildings. Compliance with Part E is mandatory for:

    • New Dwellings: Including houses and flats.
    • Conversions: Such as office-to-residential or large houses split into apartments.
    • Rooms for Residential Use: Including hotels, student halls, and care homes.

Our Acoustic Testing Services

We conduct two primary types of tests to ensure your building envelope is performing as designed:

Test Type

What We Measure

How It Works

Airborne Sound Test

Resistance to noise like speech, TV, or music.

We use high-output speakers in one room and measure the sound level in the adjacent room.

Impact Sound Test

Resistance to footfall and moving furniture.

We use a calibrated “tapping machine” on floors to measure the vibration transmitted to the room below.

Why Choose Our Acoustic Team?

    • SITMA/ANC Accredited: Our technicians are fully qualified and registered, meaning our reports are accepted by Building Control and NHBC/Premier Guarantee.
    • Design-Stage Reviews: We don’t just show up at the end. We can review your architectural drawings early on to identify “flanking” paths or weak spots in the construction.
    • Remedial Solutions: If a partition fails, we use our diagnostic expertise to identify the bridge and suggest practical, cost-effective ways to improve the decibel ($dB$) rating.
    • Coordinated Site Visits: Minimize site downtime by booking your Acoustic Testing on the same day as your Air Tightness and Part F Ventilation tests.

Ensure your project is quiet, compliant, and ready for handover. Contact us today for a bespoke quote or to discuss your project’s specific acoustic requirements.
